Teec Nos Pos Trading Post offers an extensive collection of locally made, authentic traditional Navajo Rugs.

The following images are samples of Teec Nos Pos (design style) Navajo rugs that have been in our inventory. These rugs were created by two of our more excellent weavers.

Navajo Rugs

Navajo Artisans include fine art rug weavers. The Teec Nos Pos Trading Post has a long history of supporting these artisans by being a source for purchase of their fine art. Each rug is a unique creation by the weaver. The patterns and images vary widely with the geographical origins of the weaver and their clan (family) heritage.

Navajo Rug weavers have very special spiritual and intellectual qualities. These are often displayed in the patterns and images. Although some rugs have a "life line" woven into one of the corners of the rug. Many believe the "life line" assures the weavers sprit is not locked into the rug. The traditional weavers do not use notes or drawings during the weaving. The very complex patterns and images are "vivid" in their minds.

The Navajo Rugs are pure artistic creations. When sitting at the loom, the weaver is often in a deep meditative state of mind. Life has many challenges and can be complex on the Navajo Nation. There is a very profound and poignant statement, form an unidentified Navajo author, that states; "I am a Navajo Weaver and I Survive"

Navajo Shield

This unique Native American artistic creation was a special order item. It includes several fetishes of spiritual importance to the traditional Navajo.

This beautiful wall hanging is approximately 42 inches tall and 17 inches wide.

Territory Marker

Territory Markers, made by local Navajo Artisans, are available at Teec Nos Pos Trading Post.

The territory marker represents an old fashioned Native American taboo symbol. As the name implies, this item was used to mark the individual's or Tribe's boundaries.

It was intended to be a scary object which would bring bad events to those not permitted to pass the marker. The bone knife at the bottom was used to stick the Territory Marker in the ground near a path to the home or camp.

The marker has a coyote skull with deer horns and is wrapped in coyote pelt. The skull is attached to a wooden shaft and a simulated elk bone knife is attached to the other end of the shaft. The shaft has a soft buckskin wrap and fine bead work.

Feathers are attached by leather straps to the eye sockets of the skull. Each creation is unique and the variations depend on the artists "in the moment" feelings and the available materials.

Peace Pipe

Dear Antler Peace Pipes, made by local Navajo Artisans, are available at Teec Nos Pos Trading Post. There are other types of peace pipes used for different purposes (e.g., the war pipe). The peace pipe is frequently used by a Medicine Man in a spiritual ceremony.

He and  the selected ceremony members will smoke from the pipe and say a prayer to the four sacred stones (mountains). The tobacco used in these ceremonies is not of the nicotiana genisus but is a natural entheogen substance believed to generate the devine within for a spiritual experience.

These Navajo Dear Antler Peace Pipes come in several sizes and each is a unique creation.

The bowl and mouth piece are made from antlers (deer or elk). The design for the bowl of the pipe varies with the artists conception for the specific antler.

The stem is made of wood with soft buckskin leather wrap and delicate bead work. The stems of the larger peace pipes usually include a small medicine pouch and a leather wrapped circle fetish. The decorative strap below the pipe is a combination of wood beads, thin slices of antler, and feathers. The source of the feathers vary from water fowl to wild turkey.
